GENESIS TOP NOTCH TEENS (GTNT) RITES OF PASSAGE
The CFIBWC’s GENESIS TOP NOTCH TEENS (GTNT) RITES OF PASSAGE is a program for females between the ages of 11 – 18 years old who are living in Central Florida. The immediate goal is to recruit young females who reside in Orlando, Altamonte Springs and Sanford, Florida to participant in a 12 week training program designed and geared toward developing citizenship behavior that decreases crime, bullying, teen pregnancy, illegal substance use/abuse, poor academic achievement, and a significant school dropout rate. These are areas that impact the livelihood of the current and future generations of youth in Central Florida, as well. Participants will be engaged in curriculums promoting self-awareness, self-esteem, development of leadership, academic and life skills, cultural awareness, and mentorship. The program offers twelve weeks of all day (6 hours) Saturday workshops. The intense Saturday sessions include classes on nutrition, health, fitness, cultural awareness, life management skills, exploring relationships, self-esteem, self-awareness, life cycles development, and the “meaning of-success”.
Our long range goal is to have at least 85% percent of the participants to complete the GTNT Rites of Passage and graduate from high school or get an equivalency certificate. One hundred percent of these individuals will be encouraged to go on to college or to attend some form of post secondary training and with a goal that 50% will enroll in a postsecondary institution.
Upon completion of the program, the members of CFIBWC will serve as on-going mentors for the girls. A recognition ceremony will be held in celebration for participants completing the program.
